Dutch startups raised almost €2.6 billion last year, making 2025 the third best year ever. This is the main insights from the Quarterly Startup Report, a quarterly data analysis by Golden Egg Check together with Dealroom, KPMG NL Emerging Giants, the Regionale Ontwikkelingsmaatschappijen (ROM’s), NVP, Techleap, Invest-NL and Dutch Startup Association.
What was most interesting to us: 2024 and 2025 were almost identical:
- roughly same percentage of deals in Pre-Seed (~25%), Seed (~40%), Series A (~20%), Series B+ (~14%)
- roughly same number of deals: 342 vs. 349
- Picnic saved the year with a mega round (€355M in 2024, €430M in 2025)
Zooming out a bit, we also found this interesting and maybe a bit concerning:
In the era of AI, it is striking that the number of large funding rounds in Dutch AI startups is lagging behind. In other European countries, key players have now emerged, such as Mistral in France and Lovable in Sweden. These are not isolated cases. I hope that by 2026, more leading Dutch AI companies will continue to grow, with General Intuition at least having a Dutch touch!
