Munich-based quantum computing startup\u00a0Peak Quantum<\/a>\u00a0has closed a \u20ac2.2 million pre-seed financing round. The lead investor is\u00a0Cloudberry Ventures\u00a0<\/a>(UK). Other investors include\u00a0United Founders<\/a>,\u00a0QAI Ventures<\/a>,\u00a0Golden Egg Check<\/a>, as well as several business angels with industry experience.<\/p>\n

This brings the company\u2019s total funding to more than \u20ac5 million.This figure includes public funding, including support from the EU Chips Act. The funds will be used to further develop the technology and to establish a European pilot production facility for superconducting quantum processors.<\/p>\n

Scientific Foundation and Development Expertise<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The startup emerged in 2024 from the research group led by Prof. Stefan Filipp at the Walther Meissner Institute (WMI), one of Europe\u2019s leading research institutions for superconducting quantum chips. The WMI is part of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and is located on the Technical University of Munich\u2019s Garching Research Campus.<\/p>\n

Peak Quantum\u2019s team brings together expertise across the entire value chain, from chip design and manufacturing through to integration into quantum systems. Peak Quantum is part of Munich Quantum Valley, a Bavarian research and innovation initiative for quantum computing that connects academia and industry. In addition, the startup is supported by UnternehmerTUM, one of Europe\u2019s largest innovation and entrepreneurship centers based in Munich.<\/p>\n

At the heart of its technological approach is the development of \u201cquantum bits\u201d (qubits) whose physical architecture suppresses errors already at the hardware level. Conventional quantum processors are considered highly error-prone and therefore require complex downstream error correction. Peak Quantum is taking a fundamentally different approach: error protection is built directly into the hardware design, rather than being added afterwards. This reduces overall system complexity and can shorten the path to practical lquantum computers.<\/p>\n

Robust and scalable quantum processors<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u201cThe quantum computing industry has focused for too long on scaling the number of physical qubits,\u201d CEO Leon Koch explains. \u201cBut more qubits don\u2019t help if each one is unreliable. We are developing processors where error resilience is a physical property of the hardware itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n

A key building block for this is the planned European quantum chip pilot line SUPREME under the EU Chips Act. Peak Quantum has been selected to operate this line. The launch is scheduled for April 2026. The aim is to create industrial infrastructure for the development and manufacturing of quantum chips in Europe. In the long term, it is intended to evolve into a scalable production environment accessible to external partners.<\/p>\n

COO Dr. Thomas Luschmann emphasizes: \u201cIf Europe wants to play a leading role in quantum computing, it must develop and manufacture the hardware itself. With the pilot line, we are helping to ensure that this key technology is created in Europe.\u201d<\/p>\n

The development of high-performance quantum processors is considered a key technology for numerous application areas, including materials research, logistics, security, and industrial optimization. In this environment, Peak Quantum positions itself as a provider of core hardware components.<\/p>\n
