After a strong first quarter, investments in Dutch startups have declined compared to Q1. &#8216;Only&#8217; \u20ac440M was invested in Q2. The number of deals has decreased by 20% in total compared to the same quarter last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the main insight from the Quarterly Startup Report, a quarterly data analysis of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dealroom.co<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Golden Egg Check, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">KPMG<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Regionale Ontwikkelingsmaatschappijen (ROM\u2019s), Nederlandse Vereniging van Participatiemaatschappijen (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NVP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Techleap<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Invest-NL<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Dutch Startup Association (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dSa<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decline is also due to the size of the investments: especially very large rounds of around \u20ac100M and higher were missing this quarter. These rounds are exceptional and difficult to predict in the Netherlands anyway. Compared to the second quarters in previous years, there is now also a decline:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/18671376\">\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/17434292\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thomas Mensink<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comments on behalf of Golden Egg Check: &#8220;It is striking that in 2024 there have been almost half fewer investments in the segment from 4 to 15 million euros. These are typical Series A rounds. Where previously the challenge was mainly in the early phase, up to 1 million euros, and the large rounds in the later phase, it now seems to be in the middle. Perhaps companies are still waiting for the right time to come back to the market for their Series A round.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<div data-src=\"visualisation\/17434292\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A significant part of the decline comes from the number of Series A deals (\u20ac4-15M) which went from 20 in Q2 2023 to 10 last quarter. In the early phase, in rounds up to \u20ac1M, the number of investments increased, from 14 to 19, compared to the first quarter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The top 10 largest deals of the past quarter:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Axelera AI <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$68M<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BioBTX<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u20ac42M (though total round including loan and subsidies was \u20ac80M)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mosa Meat <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u20ac40M<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">bunq \u20ac29M<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">CuspAI $30M<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Qblox $26M<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Vitestro $22M<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Flindr Therapeutics \u20ac20M<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Nebul \u20ac20M<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Vico Therapeutics \u20ac11.5M (second closing part of Series B financing round, totalling \u20ac65.8M)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div data-src=\"visualisation\/17434292\"><iframe class=\"airtable-embed\" style=\"background: transparent; border: 1px solid #ccc;\" src=\"https:\/\/airtable.com\/embed\/applRjchGzAtQSvRo\/shrgKwCskf5OFAuWE?viewControls=on\" width=\"100%\" height=\"533\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s happening?!\u00a0 The growth of investments in Dutch startups is not continuing.
